A Prayer for the New Year

As we enter a new year and observe the passage of time, we are reminded of our mortality and dependence upon You. Lend us Your energy, strength, and wisdom day-by-day as we seek to love and serve those You’ve placed nearest us.

In our families, bring harmony and unity. Enable us to find rest and solace in the design You ordained for us when You created us.

In our church communities, help us see each other’s strengths and skills, not faults and shortcomings—of which there are many, O Lord—so we might continue Your eternal work of restoration on earth as it is in heaven.

In our corporate work, give us grace to collaborate without fear, anxiety, or self-focus, so we might work as unto You, knowing it is You whom we serve and You will reward our effort. We praise You for meeting our needs—past, present, and future.

In our creative work, may we reflect Your creativity. May our art emanate Your truth and beauty, as seen all around us and in us. May You establish the work of our hands.

As we enter this new year, turn us toward You in our frailty and make Your face shine upon us, our Everlasting Father.

Amen.
