Two More Bookshelves*

I am a keeper of books. My personal library holds an array of topics, both fiction and nonfiction. As a keeper of books, a primary concern is bookshelves—quantity and quality of shelf-space. In the keeping of books—assuming one intends to continue to occasionally discard and more often procure volumes—one has to make choices. He can either slow his accumulation of books, garner more bookcases, or allow books to pile up in stacks on the floor, on tables, in boxes.

A couple of weeks ago I was facing this concern. I lacked available shelf-space and was at risk of the stacking method of keeping books. (I am an organized and tidy fellow, so this wasn’t an option.) If you’re a keeper of books I’m sure you can sense the panic, the flap. But rest easy. No cliff-hangers here. I’m both happy and grateful to say my need was met. My concern was eliminated. Two more bookshelves found their way into my study. I now have shelving on every wall and enviable shelf-space to spare.
